Synopsis/ Treatment

The Antique is a fictional story, inspired by events of the Southern Nigeria people in the 19th Century. With a technique that combines theatrical aesthetics and culturally derived meanings, cultivated for utilitarian purposes, this film highlights on the characters that fought to defend its rich culture and help build it’s kingdom.

The picture starts with a scene of a happy and successful community as they share their lot with one another, but there is a sudden turn of event as three strange beings invade the kingdom in search of an antique; which has the power to protect it’s people and sustain it’s royalty.

The kingdom’s warriors are overpowered and the invaders take away the sacred emblem, whereby bringing a curse on the land.

In the second act; several decades later, the current Oba’s only son is ill and at the point of death. As revealed by the witch doctor, the sickness is as a result of the missing antique. Therefore, to bring the circles of deaths and famine in the land to end, an innocent girl named Uki (Oge Indiana) is chosen to risk her life by journeying to the land where mortals are forbidden, on a quest to find and return the antique.

Three special warriors, who will stop at nothing until they achieve their purpose, accompany Uki. The journey proves to be a mission almost impossible as they encounter sinister immortal forces, which try to stop them from reaching their goal.

In every twelve there is a Judas; the witch doctor with a seductress named Isoken has a hidden agenda as anxiety back in the village unveils series of dynamics in the running of the kingdom. Meanwhile, the return of Uki and the warriors is uncertain.

Tips to Help You Manage Urinary Incontinence

Older women, men who had prostate surgery, and pregnant women, live with urinary incontinence. If you’re among them, you don’t just have to accept this condition.

“Incontinence is more common as people get older, but it should never be viewed as a normal part of aging,” says Tomas L. Griebling, MD, MPH, vice chair of the urology department at the University of Kansas. “It really is not normal. If we can find reasons why they are having problems, we can get them some help with their symptoms.”

It may be awkward to discuss with your doctor, but asking for help can often make things better.

“Doctors can always help someone deal with this,” says Alan J. Wein, MD, chief of urology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. “Treatment generally includes a combination of behavior modification -- self-help things you can do -- plus perhaps medication.”

Here are something that can help:

Pelvic Floor Exercises

Pelvic floor muscles help you hold your urine. You may leak if the muscles are weakened from pregnancy, prostate surgery, or being overweight. But you can strengthen your muscles to improve symptoms.

The exercise that works these muscles is called a Kegel. “I tell people to do and hold each for as long as you can,” Wein says. “Get into the habit of doing them daily, about every 2 waking hours. They can stop leakage or significantly prevent it.”

Pelvic floor exercises can also help if you're struck with the sudden urge to urinate.

“They're called 'quick flicks,'” Wein says. “Relax and contract the muscles very quickly. Many times, that will abort the sensation of urgency.”

Less Liquid

Accidents are more likely when your bladder is full. If you drink too much of anything, even water, you might feel an urgent need to go.

Limit caffeine and alcohol, which make you produce more urine. “You'll run to the toilet all day long,” says May M. Wakamatsu, MD, a pelvic medicine specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Drink 6 to 8 glasses of liquid per day. Cut back after 4 p.m. if you leak overnight. But do drink. If you don’t, your body will still make urine, but it will be concentrated and irritate the lining of your bladder. That can cause more of an urge, Griebling says.

A Bathroom Schedule

“You can't leak if your bladder is empty,” says Craig Comiter, MD, professor of urology at Stanford University School of Medicine. “Urinate before you have the urge, so you don't have an accident. If you know you get the urge every 3 hours, go every 2 1/2 hours."

If you have to go too often, try to extend the amount of time between visits. Combine this practice, called bladder training, with pelvic floor exercises for better success.

“Go every two hours this week, 2 1/4 hours next week,” Comiter says. “You only know you waited too long when you have an accident, so this is a home strategy.”

How André 3000 Mastered Jimi Hendrix’s Voice For A New Biopic

Outkast's André 3000 (real name: André Benjamin) didn't have to physically change much to play Jimi Hendrix in the film Jimi: All Is By My Side—he didn't even have to wear a wig! But as a Southern-born-and-raised musician, mastering the accent of the Seattle native was a bit more difficult.

As Benjamin tells Terry Gross in this Fresh Air interview, he adopted some rather unorthodox methods for nailing Hendrix's distinctive voice:

There were certain vocal exercises that I learned from my vocal coach even at one point in time I was walking around with a wine cork in my mouth and speaking with the wine cork because Jimi, he protruded his mouth forward and he talked with a lisp, kind of.

So I had to try to mimic that kind of thing. A funny thing is, I tried to find like a, I guess a meeting point to something that I was familiar with in Hendrix, and there's a cartoon character called Snagglepuss.

When I was a kid there was this cat that he would say, "Stage left even." And to me it was Hendrix-y and so every time we would get ready the set, you know, you would hear the "Stage left even." You know, that was kind of my thing to get into, you know, the Hendrix voice.

However, the voice wasn't the hardest thing he had to learn for the role. Benjamin plays the guitar right-handed, and Hendrix was a lefty.

When it came time to do the left-hand thing, I almost had to [do] finger choreography, learning where the chords are, learning the actual chords of the song with my left hand, learning where the notes are, learning how my fingers should lay. But it was really, really difficult, because it's almost like walking backwards and making walking backwards look normal.

The interview also goes into plenty of detail about how the filmmakers were able to get around the fact that the Hendrix estate didn't allow them to use any songs Jimi wrote (the good news: he performed lots and lots of covers). The film is in theaters now. [Fresh Air]

We knew North West was an absolute cutie, but who knew she was super generous as well? For her mum Kim Kardashian's 34th birthday, North gave her a handpainted Hermes bag. We're sure Kanye West had nothing to do with this at all...

Kim said of the 16-month-old's generous gift: "Kanye had a box [with an Hermes bag in it] and I opened it up and it was all painted really cool and on my computer was this message that said 'Play' and it was a video of my daughter sitting outside painting the purse.

"I had thought it was this new artist who had painted this purse [but] it was my daughter. It was amazing."

VTEK is more than just a producer and it’s beyond the P-Square album

There are two key words that focus the reader’s attention on the subject of this article: VTEK beyond just a Producer and the mentioned of P-Square's name in the heading. One accentuates and influences the other.

Well the fact that one of the world’s greatest talents from Africa, a Nigerian to be precise; VTEK have his name mentioned during a discussion among media personalities which I was one of them few days ago lead to this write up. I would love to have option of others on this issue, feel free to share your personal opinion on the issue.

I am always bitter when the name VTEK is only associated and tagged as P-Square’s Producer only leaving out other amazing achievements this young multi-talented act had achieved and still achieving.  VTEK have a reviving present and a promising future than many of the celebrated music producers today. Don’t get me wrong.

I think it will be nice to share my thought on this issue. Not only about VTEK but he just happened to be the subject in question that trigger this write up.

Many amazing talents in the entertainment and music industry gets ignored and not properly appreciated because of sentimental mindsets of certain powerful people in the industry. Sometime hardworking group member contributing the most part which is bring the group to the spotlight, Music Producer who contributed more to records unlike other beat makers, Promoters who goes beyond just promoting the records, offering uncharged artist development services, DJ who never used his influence with as a radio or club dj on fast rising acts, demanding ridiculous amount of money before song can be added to his playlist, Bloggers like Demola and Ovie of Notjustok who doesn’t charge to feature songs on their blog, same to Ms.Uduak of Africa Music Law, who out of her busy schedule still find time to educate music business entrepreneurs with her posts on AML, the list goes on.

What Does Uncelebrated Mean? Several related phrases define the word “uncelebrated.”   Phrases like not publicly acclaimed; unrecognized; obscure; unsung or not formally or officially honored.

Is VTEK an Unsung celebrity? Or Creditably Uncelebrated ?

Now let’s explore what lead to the VTEK’s appraisal argument session among 4 other ladies and my humble self which inspire this article.

I was hanging out with some colleagues in the entertainment industry who are obviously older than me when P-Square’s song was played and in within VTEK name was mentioned.

The lady that mentioned his name said; I heard the boy VTEK is really good in production but what is he doing with music again, must he join others in singing? … That was how the debate and argument started.

First she said when P-Square’s song ‘Eje Ajo’ was played on Beat Fm, Lagos; Hmmmm! Great song and instrumental, I don’t really like this song when I first heard it but I love the beat from the 1st day but now this is one of my favorites P-Square sound in recent time.  One of the ladies, an OAP on Orange FM, Akure, Ondo State said Great song indeed but I don’t think Nigerians are ready for this, judging by the way some music fans attacked the P-Square when the song and video was released as singles before the album.

Seeing the direction the discussion was heading I quickly added my own opinion; To me the song is a game changer and any fan who hate the song is not truly P-Square’s fan. Kudos to VTEK the young man that produced and influence the sound, he is a great songwriter and artiste aside production you know.

What followed was a heated arguments which majorly fell on VTEK. While we pointed out being a producer/artiste is not a problem 2 ladies were literally against us until the lady from Akure, the Orange FM OAP started listing out what VTEK has done from his personal efforts to production credits which he also featured on and I joined in.

After the discussion, I thought about the issue and I must confess I felt bad based on the fact that we have many uncelebrated celebrities in Nigeria.

VTEK is one young multi-talented Artiste/Producer who doubles as a professional songwriter and audio mixing and mastering engineer.

For African most celebrated music group and one of the biggest stars in the continent to allow a young talent like him to single-handedly supervise their album project in terms overall of mixing and mastering, co-writes on the album then the young man had worked himself a direct celebrity ticket.  I remembered one of the ladies saying but producing P-Square’s album does not make him a celebrity.

To me VTEK’s celebrating achievement is beyond the P-Square’s album judging by the fact he showed us he is capable with his effort on Eedris Abdulkareem’s “I GO WHOOZ” where he said the hook and producing it. Also between Mode 9 and Eedris Abdulkareem he also shows he can deliver when it comes to music on DJ Vinne’s ‘Bad Guys Ballers’. His personal song ‘Spotlight’ featuring Capital FEMI. His T.MIX featured delivery on T.Pain’s official EP track “Dream” which gain many thumbs up. His contribution on so many song including Sheyman’s recent releases and the P-Square’s album, Niyola’s new song and someone is saying the boy VTEK does not deserved to be celebrated, do you agreed or disagreed with her?

Not only VTEK but many others like I mentioned early deserved to be celebrated. It’s time to face the fact and let us celebrate and appreciate those needed to be celebrated and appreciated.

I will try my best to hook up with VTEK real soon to talk about his achievements and more things. I believe he truly deserved to be celebrated and appreciated more.

How to Relax After a Long Day

Feeling tense and worn out is common to many people who don’t spend a lot of time relaxing. Without taking time out for yourself, the stress gradually builds up. Instead of getting frazzled and run-down, have a break and seek a few quick, tried and true pick-me-ups. Here are some ideas to help you chill out and return refreshed to face the world again.

Take a bubble bath. Find some favourite bubble bath, (spa quality if you can afford it), although it might even be one that your children use, as long as it creates bubbles and softness around you allowing you to relax. Bath bombs and ‘floating island’ type bubble bath products are also very effective. If you do not have a bath, just ensure you’re able to take a warm bath.

Eat some favorite and energising food. Food often provides the energy pick-up needed when you feel flat, and it helps to make you feel more content. Soup and broth is an ideal solution if you are on the run and have limited time, as you can heat some varieties in the microwave at home or work. If not, try your favourite easy meal. If you are cold, eat something filling and hot.

Light some scented candles. Cheap can be cheerful provided you smell the candle before you buy it – prefer beeswax, soy, or palm candles over petroleum and tallow candles, as these don’t emit poisonous fumes. Long or squat, the flickering flame will help soothe your mind.

Play a soothing CD or tape. Good sounds include those such as classical and perhaps whale or bush noises if you have access to such music CDs or downloads. Stay away from rock, opera, punk or pop music, unless you want to be energised.

Make your sleeping or living area comfortable. If you go to sleep after work, as soon as you get home, prepare your sleeping area by adding a hot water bottle or turning the heater up a little if it is cold, or open windows a few hours before you go to sleep if it is hot and let a fresh breeze blow through.

Watch a movie. Prepare snacks such as popcorn and your favorite drink. Pick out your favorite movie and try and notice things that you have never noticed before. If you’re really tired and you can watch TV in bed, do so!

6 Easy Moves With a Stability Ball

Need to melt fat away? Do this fun, 30-minute routine three times a week, using a stability ball.

Twister

Works butt, thighs, obliques, abs
Hold ball with arms extended at chest, fee hip-width apart. Step right foot back and bend knees to lower into lunge (shown above). Rotate torso to left, bringing ball past left shoulder. Reverse to return to start. That’s one rep. Do 12, then switch sides.

TRY IT: Squeeze ball between palms for added upper-body sculpting.

Ab-racadabra

Works abs
Lie with middle of back on ball, hands behind head, elbows out, feet flat on floor and knees bent 90 degrees. Keeping neck relaxed, contract abs and curl up until head is in line with shoulders (above). Return to start. Do 12. reps.

TRY IT: Once you feel your abs engage, stop. That’s the sweet spot. This is a subtle move — no need to pull yourself up into a full sit-up.

 

Booty Bridge

Works hamstrings, butt, thighs
Lie faceup on the floor with legs straight, heels resting on top of ball, arms by sides, palms flat. Squeeze glutes and raise hips until body forms a straight line. Bend knees and dig in heels to roll ball toward you (shown above). Straighten legs to roll back to start. That’s one rep; do 12.

TRY IT: Invite your abs to the party! Actively pull your navel in toward your spine throughout — it will help prevent your hips from drooping.

 

Alphabet Arms

Works back, shoulders
Lie facedown on ball with legs extended behind you and arms outstretched to form the letter “Y” (shown above). Lower arms to sides, then bring them up to shoulder height, now forming a “T.” Lower arms to sides again, then stretch them back, keeping elbows straight, to make a “W.” Move through all three positions 12 times.

TRY IT: Stretch arms as straight as you can, and hold each letter for two seconds.

On a Roll

Works butt, thighs
Stand with feet hip-width apart, ball pressed by lower back against wall, hands on hips. Slowly roll down wall into a squat until thighs are parallel to the floor (shown above). Return to standing. Do 12 reps.

TRY IT: The ball is like a spotter. It will help you guid the movement, letting you sink more deeply (and easily!) into the squat.

So Pushy

Works chest, shoulders, triceps, biceps
Hold ball against wall at chest level. Step back until arms extend fully, keeping body straight from head to heels. Bend elbows and move toward ball until chest touches it (above). Pause, then push back to start. Do 12 reps.

TRY IT: A wider stance makes the move easier.

Left-handed people make up 10-12% of the population, but we live in a right handed world. Most gadgets, office supplies, cooking supplies, and various other objects are catered for the right handed population. Since most people are not part of the lefty-club, here are little-known facts about left handed people that you probably didn’t know!

1. Your favourite celebrities may be left-handed. Tom Cruise, Whoopi Goldberg, Paul McCartney, Oprah Winfrey, Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lawrence, Obama, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie all sport dominant left hands. Many deceased celebrities, like Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain, and Jimi Hendrix were left-handed too. Maybe being left handed is the secret to success!

2. 40% of schizophrenics are left-handed, despite being only 10% of the world’s population. The left hemisphere of the brain is used by both lefties and righties for language functioning. However, about 40% of lefties are partial to their right hemisphere. As a result, lefties run a higher risk of developing schizophrenia, dyslexia, or ADHD.

3. Lefties Tend To Be Quick To Anger. When it comes to processing moods, some lefties showed an imbalance in processing emotions with the left and right hemispheres in their brains. Frequent bad moods may be a result of this. So if you find yourself or your friend getting a little overly angry in a situation, check your hands!

4. In the 1996, the UK-based Left-Hander’s Club started the annual “Left Handers Day.” Every year on August 13th, lefties around the world can celebrate their minority dominant hand. The purpose is to raise awareness about those who are living with a dominant left hand in a right handed world.

8. Babies are more likely to be left-handed, many studies suggest. When placed on their tummies, babies who turn out to be left handed tend to turn their heads to the left. In contrast, babies who turn out to be right handed turn their heads to the right. This may be coincidental, but it is a trend that is recurring.

9. Left-handed soldiers prepare and throw grenades upside down because of how the safety pin is placed.

10. Inherited genes account for just 25% of the chance of being left-handed, a study found.

11. Left-handed people are affected by post-traumatic stress far more than those who are right-handed, a research revealed.

6 Places To Use Your Perfume For Long Lasting Effect

Whether you’ve got a signature scent like the Chanel No. 5 or you like to constantly rotate with an entire fragrance wardrobe, you’ve got the same end goal: To have your perfume last all day long.

Often times this entails overcompensating — applying a few extra spritzes to our tried-and-true wrists and collarbones, to no avail. But there are a few lesser-known parts of your body that you’re not taking advantage of. 1. Hair

Believe it or not, some believe that your strands are an even better vessel for carrying fragrance than your skin — you’ve just got to be careful about application. Instead of misting it directly on your hair (Remember: Alcohol dries it out), spritz it on your brush so that it will be dispersed more evenly and subtly.

2. Behind the Ears

Like your wrists, the areas behind your ears are considered “pulse points,” where the veins are closest to the skin, thus generating more heat and amplifying your scent. Dabbing your fragrance on these points will give you more immediate results, as opposed to parts of the lower body, which will rise up through the day. Also, if you’re wearing jewelry it’s a great alternative to spraying your neck, as perfume can tarnish your jewelry.

3. Down Your Back

It may seem odd, but fragrance expert Chandler Burr insists it strikes the perfect balance between giving your fragrance a long shelf life and not having it be too overbearing for those around you. “Pull the collar of your top back, and put a blast down your back between clothing and skin,” he advises.

If it’s a light fragrance, do it twice. Your natural movements through the air will diffuse the scent more subtly, it won’t be right in front of you — or people you’re with.

4. Inside Elbows

Another obscure pulse point, it’s a more tucked away alternative to your wrists. And note, to maximize the diffusion of your fragrance, be sure to moisturize your arms (or any other part of your body) before you spritz on your scent.

5. Behind Knees

Even if your memory of your high school science curriculum is foggy, you definitely remember one big rule: Heat rises. So it makes sense to apply fragrance somewhere on the lower half of your body that will evaporate throughout the day. Like the insides of your elbows, the areas behind your knees are pulse points, so it’s the most logical part of your lower limbs.

What Does Your Blood Type Say About You?

In 1930, a Japanese professor by the name of Tokeji Furukawa published a paper claiming that the individual blood types — A, B, AB and O — reflected the personalities of those who possessed them. Since then, blood type categorization, “ketsueki-gata,” has become firmly entrenched in Japanese culture. Much like astrological horoscopes, Japanese television and newspapers offer blood type horoscopes, and books that detail the link between blood type and personality are perpetual bestsellers. There are even matchmakers who specialize in finding future spouse based on blood types. But much like astrology, a scientific correlation between blood type and personality remains unproven.

That said, there’s been plenty of research detailing how blood types can reveal patterns of personal health – and that’s fascinating in and of itself. It’s thought that different blood types may protect us from different diseases; scientists have been finding links between blood types and illness since the middle of the 20th century. With that in mind, here’s what the science has to say about your blood type. And for fun, we’ve thrown in a little ketsueki-gata as well.

If you have blood type A

Type A only has A antigens on red cells and B antibodies in the plasma; if you have type A blood, you can donate red blood cells to types A and AB.

The makeup of a person’s antigens on red blood cells can determine how much of a certain hormone gets released. If you have type A blood, you’re more likely to have higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol in your body. There are a number of health risks that are associated with type A blood, such as a 20 percent higher chance of developing stomach cancer compared to types O and B, and a 5 percent increased risk for heart disease compared to those with type O.

In addition, if you have type A blood, you are at higher risk for several types of cancer, such as some forms of pancreatic cancer and leukemia; according to the BBC, you are also more prone to smallpox infections and severe malaria. Ironically, those with type A also have been found to be less magnetic to mosquitoes – so there’s reason to rejoice!

According to ketsueki-gata, if you have blood type A, you have some great traits. You are earnest, creative, sensible, reserved, patient and responsible (even if you are also stubborn and tense).

If you have blood type B

If you have type B blood, you only have the B antigens on red cells and A antibodies in the plasma; you can donate red blood cells to those with types B and AB blood.

Those with type B have an 11 percent increase in risk of heart disease over those with type O. A study at Harvard University found that women with AB or B blood have a raised risk of developing ovarian cancer, but if you have type B, it’s not all bad news. Those with type B blood have up to 50,000 times the number of strains of friendly bacteria than people with either type A or O blood, which means all kinds of good things.

And in terms of ketsueki-gata? You can be proud of your passion, active nature, creativity and strength. On the other hand, you’re also selfish, irresponsible, unforgiving and erratic.

If you have blood type AB

Those with AB blood have both A and B antigens on red cells, but neither A nor B antibody in the plasma. If you have AB positive blood, you are universal plasma donor.

People with type AB have been found to have a 23 percent increased risk of heart disease over those with type O blood. Having AB blood may double the liklihood that a pregnant mother will suffer from the blood pressure condition called pre-eclampsia.

One intriguing blood type study published in the journal Neurology found that those with type AB blood were 82 percent more likely to have cognitive difficulties — specifically in areas like memory recall, language and attention — than people with other blood types. The researchers suspect that the clotting protein known as coagulation factor VIII is to blame. “Since factor VIII levels are closely linked to blood type, this may be one causal connection between blood type and cognitive impairment,” said study author Mary Cushman.

When it comes to ketsueki-gata, if you have type AB blood you’re cool, controlled, rational and adaptable … and critical, indecisive, forgetful and irresponsible.

If you have blood type O

If you fall into the O blood group, you have neither A nor B antigens on your red cells, but both A and B antibodies in your plasma. O positive is the most common blood type; O negative is the universal donor type, meaning those with this blood type can donate red blood cells to anybody.

For those with type O, it’s a mixed bag. If you have type O, you are more likely to get ulcers — and believe it or not, to rupture your Achilles tendons. You are also at higher risk of cholera. The good news is that people with type O blood are at a lower risk for pancreatic cancer and face a lower risk of dying from malaria than people with other blood groups; that said, is you have type O, you are twice as likely to be a mosquito magnet than those with type A blood.

If you have type O blood, ketsueki-gata suggests that you are confident, self-determined, strong-willed and intuitive; unfortunately, you are also self-centered, cold, unpredictable, and potentially a workaholic.

In your 20s, having a baby is the often the last thing on your mind. Despite how you feel about conceiving at this specific time in your life, there are a few things you should know about your fertility and your egg reserve. You were born with all the eggs you will ever have. That’s it. You don’t lose them one by one — you lose them exponentially. You’re born with 1 million eggs, but by the time you reach puberty, you are down to about 300,000, even though you’re never ovulated in your whole life! As you get older, the number of eggs decreases, along with the quality of the remaining eggs — just because you don’t have your period every month doesn’t mean you aren’t losing your eggs.

The good, the bad, and the ugly:

To make sure you’re making the most of your eggs, whether you want a child now or later, you should pay attention to these nine things that can affect your fertility now and in the future.

The Good:

1. Birth control pills

Although birth control pills are designed to prevent pregnancy, “the pill” can actually help protect future fertility. Not only do they reduce the risk of ovarian cancer, they can actually decrease the risk of upper genital tract infections by thickening cervical mucus and increase the activity of the ovary.

The Bad:

2. Smoking

In addition to taking years off your life, smoking affects several aspects of your fertility. It directly kills off eggs, and it also affects the motility or movement of the fallopian tubes, making it harder for an egg to move through the tube.

3. Alcohol

Alcohol leads to a couple of things. First, excessive alcohol use damages the liver. However, it can also lead to risky and unsafe sexual practices, which may leads to sexually transmitted infections (STIs). STIs can cause future infertility.

4. Overexercising

Exercise is great for the mind and body. Excessive exercise, however, such as too-frequent and long-distance running, can cause an unhealthy decrease in body fat. When your body fat is decreased past a certain limit, your ovaries begin to “believe” that you are starving to death and lose their ability to function normally.

5. HCG Diet

With the trendy HCG diet, a woman does two things: she takes HCG injections and goes on a severely low-calorie regimen. The HCG injections are supposed to mimic thyroid hormone. What they can also do is cause the ovary to make cysts, which may require surgery. Even if the ovary isn’t removed during surgery, the procedure to remove the cyst can damage the ovary itself, affecting your reserve of eggs.

6. Marijuana

While it has been known for a while that marijuana smoking in men can affect sperm motility, recent studies have found that it also affects women. Women who smoke marijuana can absorb THC not only in the lungs, but also in the pelvic organs, which can affect sperm motility later on.

7. Excessive weight loss/gain

As previously discussed, ovulation requires a certain amount of body fat. Excessive weight loss can cause permanent damage, like losing the ability to ovulate. However, excess weight gain can also cause problems, leading to insulin resistance and diabetes, which can cause irregular menstrual cycles as a result of poor ovulation.

The Ugly:

8. Abnormal periods:

With the exception of women who are on birth control, are pregnant, or are menopausal, women should have regular periods every month. Irregular periods should be evaluated as they can indicate more serious problems affecting the ovary.

9. Endometriosis/pelvic pain

During a normal menstrual period, endometrial tissue is expelled through the cervix into the vagina. However, endometrial tissue can also be expelled “backwards” through the fallopian tubes and deposited into the pelvis. When this tissue implants and grows, endometriosis occurs. These implants can cause indirect damage to the fallopian tubes via adhesions or direct damage to the ovary by implantation on the ovarian surface. Even in the absence of endometriosis, abdominal or pelvic pain of unknown cause can be associated with infectious diseases that can damage the fallopian tubes.

Caring For Your Wig

Just like your own hair, a wig will look better and have a longer life if you care for it. Inevitably, through regular wearing the hairpiece will become soiled with your own oils from your hair/head, skin flakes, smoke from those around you and hair care products such as hairspray or wig luster. Therefore, from time-to-time proper shampooing, conditioning and drying techniques should be used to care for the wig and prolong its life.

WASHING:

Before shampooing your hairpiece always ensure there are no knots or tangles by very gently brushing out the wig. Brush from the ends in toward the crown of the wig using a wig brush – never use a regular hairbrush as this will pull to hard on the strands inevitably leading to hair loss. Pour a small amount of wig shampoo (1-2 cap-fulls) into a tepid/cool sink of water or bowl. Next, immerse the hairpiece for 5-10 minutes in the water. Swish the wig around to ensure the water has seeped through all of the strands and then remove from the water. Empty the contents of the sink or bowl and refill with cool, clean water and then swish the wig around the clean liquid until all the shampoo is removed and then take out of the sink.

DEEP CONDITIONING THE WIG:

After shampooing add 1-2 hand full of deep conditioner to the wig, applying from root to ends, gently working it into the hairpiece. Now tie up the wig in a plastic bag, leaving it for about 45 minutes to an hour (hence the name Deep Conditioning). Once the timing elapses, put the wig into a bowl/sink and rinse completely in clean, cool water. Remove the wig and blot with a clean dry fluffy towel until all the excess water has been removed. Hang to dry, preferably on a wire wig stand and allow to air dry naturally. Only begin to style once the wig has completely dried.

A good deep conditioner should always be used on your wigs to return lustre to the wig and prevent it from over drying as over drying causes the hair to split and get tangled. Deep conditioning will help to keep your wig soft and natural-looking and this can help you keep your hair for longer because it helps return oils that is lost while washing the hair and as a result, you can use the wig for up to two years with maximum care.

STYLING THE WIG:

Use a metal pick comb to separate the individual wig strands working from the tips of the hair inwards. You can then run your fingers through to detangle the wig properly. You can use either a heatless method like flexirods/bending rollers to get curls or a heated method like a flat iron to achieve straight hair or a curling wand for maximum curls.

WIG STORAGE:

Always use a styrofoam wig-head or a wire wig stand to store your hairpiece. If you do not have one then store using a wig net.

8 Basic Stretch Exercises For Opening Tight Hips

Tight hips seem to be a common problem for almost everybody — from runners to cyclists, from deskbound bloggers to dancers. Give this area a little extra love with this sequence of eight hip-opening stretches to increase your flexibility, reduce discomfort, and prevent injury. Try the series in the order listed here, or pick your favorites to incorporate into your workout routine.

Happy Baby

This calming hip opener also stretches your lower back.

  • Begin lying flat on your back. Bend both knees, and hold the outside edges of your flexed feet with your hands. Keep your arms on the outsides of your legs.
  • Gently use your upper-body strength to equally press both knees to the floor below your armpits. Try not to tense your shoulders or chest, but keep everything relaxed.
  • Stay here for five deep breaths.

Extended Wide Squat

This relaxing stretch targets both hips at once while opening up your lower back.

  • Stand with your feet slightly wider than your hips. Bend your knees, and lower your hips down toward the ground. If your heels don’t touch the ground, roll up a towel or the back of your mat, and place it under your heels for support.
  • Bring your palms together at your heart center, and firmly press your elbows against the inside of your knees. This will help to open your hips even further.
  • After five breaths, release the hands to the floor and walk them away from your feet to increase the stretch in the hips and lower back. Hold for another five breaths.

Open Lizard

The hip flexors, the muscles at the front of the hip, can become extremely tight just from sitting. This intense stretch targets that area as well as the outer hips.

  • Come into a lunge position with your right knee forward. Lower your left knee to the floor, and rest your hands on the ground under your shoulders.
  • Slowly lower your right knee to the right so you’re resting on the outside of your right flexed foot. Keep your arms straight, pressing your chest forward to increase the stretch.
  • Hold like this for five breaths, and then repeat on the left side.

Wide-Legged Split

To stretch your hips, hamstrings, and inner thighs, do a Wide-Legged Split.

  • From Wide Squat, place your hands on the floor in front of you and inch your feet apart, making sure to keep your heels wider than your toes. Keep the soles of your feet flat on the ground at all times to protect your knees.
  • As your hips get lower, you can prop yourself up with your forearms, and then move down to your shoulders (as shown). If your shoulders are on the ground, turn your head to the side, and rest your cheek on the ground so you don’t bruise your chin.
  • Stay here for five deep breaths, then walk your feet back together. If this pose is a bit more stretch than you can muster, try the seated straddle stretch.

Butterfly

Stretch both hips at the same time with Butterfly pose.

  • Sit on the ground, bend both knees, and bring your feet together. Using your hands, open your feet up like a book. Use your leg muscles to press your knees down toward the floor.
  • Lengthen your spine, drawing your belly button inward. Relax your shoulders, and gaze either in front of you or toward your feet. Stay here for five breaths, and then slowly fold forward, drawing your torso toward your legs. Remember to try to keep your spine straight.
  • Rest your hands on your feet, pressing your knees down with your arms, or if you want more of a stretch, extend your arms out in front of you. Stay here for another five breaths.

Head to Knee

A popular stretch for runners, Head to Knee targets the hips and hamstrings while giving the back a nice stretch too.

  • Sit on the ground with your legs out in front of you. Bend your right knee, and pull the sole of your foot against your left inner thigh.
  • Sitting with a tall spine, reach both hands to your left foot, and stack your torso on top of your left thigh. If you can’t reach your hands to your foot, rest your hands on your shin or knee. Try not to round your back.
  • Stay here for at least five breaths, relaxing your shoulders away from your ears. Then do the other side.

Pigeon

A basic yoga pose, Pigeon is one of the most effective hip openers because you can focus on one hip at a time.

  • Sit with your right knee bent and your left leg extended behind you. Pull the right heel in toward your left hip, or if your hips are more open, inch your right foot away from you. Make sure your left hip is always pointing down toward the mat. If it begins to open up toward the ceiling, draw your right foot back in toward your body.
  • Stay here with your hands resting on your right thigh or your hips, or walk your hands out in front of you, allowing your torso to rest over your right knee. Hold here, breathing into any areas of tightness and tension for at least five breaths.
  • Repeat this pose with the left knee bent.

Double Pigeon

Double Pigeon offers a very intense stretch for your deep glutes.

  • Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you. Bend your left knee, and place your knee, shin, and foot on the floor so they’re parallel with your pelvis. Bend your right knee, and place it on top so your knees, shins, and ankles are stacked. You’ll know you’re doing it right when you gaze down and see that your legs make a little triangle.
  • You may find your top knee to be high up toward the ceiling. It’s OK, it just means that your hips are tight, so just stay where you are and breathe.
  • To make this pose more intense, place your hands in front of your shins and walk them out as far as you can, folding your chest toward your legs.
  • Stay here for five breaths, slowly release, and then switch legs so your left knee is on top.
