Amber Rose Takes on Rose McGowan’s: VMAs 2014

Rose McGowan’s 1998 VMAs moment is so burned into all our collective memories that it’s no surprise that few celebrities have tried to top it. In case you’ve somehow forgotten, McGowan showed up on the arm of then-boyfriend Marilyn Manson wearing a sparkly sheer veil down her front connected by a handful of delicate strings … and not much else. Even red-carpet risk takers like Miley Cyrus and Rihanna haven’t gone quite so bold (though Rih’s come close). It appears Amber Rose thought we were overdue.

amber-rose2

The star attended with husband Wiz Khalifa in the polar opposite of her wild wedding dress: A sparkly series of chains linked to create the illusion of a dress, over a sparkly G-string. Silver sandals and a big smile completed the look. Khalifa wore a statement-making shirt over slim pants and classic shoes.

amber-rose1

We give both ladies props for their daring ensembles while silently praying this does not catch on outside of the VMAs. Now we’re looking for you to weigh in.

The Wizard of Oz’ at 75: Did you know…?

"The Wizard of Oz," one of the most beloved movies of all time, celebrates the 75th anniversary of its release this month. Here are some things you may not have known about the film:

1. That makeup was killer

Makeup in 1939, especially the elaborate and colorful cosmetics many members of the cast wore, wasn't as safe as the stuff performers wear today. In fact, some of it was downright deadly.

Buddy Ebsen, who was originally cast as the Tin Man, had to leave the film when his lungs became infected by aluminum dust. The makeup was adjusted for Jack Haley, but he still remembered it as "awful."

Margaret Hamilton's copper-based makeup as the Wicked Witch was poisonous, so she lived on a liquid diet during the film, and the makeup was carefully cleaned off her each day. Bert Lahr's Cowardly Lion costume was so heavy -- "like carrying a mattress around," said his makeup man -- that he'd emerged drenched at the end of shooting. Even Ray Bolger's Scarecrow face left permanent marks.

2. Poor Margaret Hamilton

The actress has frightened generations of "Oz" fans with her portrayal of the Wicked Witch of the West, but the makeup she wore wasn't the only indignity. She was burned in one scene.

Also, though she played an old crone, she was just 36 at the time.

3. A Frank coincidence

When the wardrobe department was fishing around for a jacket for Professor Marvel (Frank Morgan), some MGM staffers bought a bunch at a second-hand store. One of them fit Morgan perfectly. When he checked the label, it said "L. Frank Baum" -- the author of the "Oz" books. Yeah, it's classified as "legend" by Snopes.com, but it still makes for a great story.

4. You're a rich dog, too

Toto, actually named Terry, was paid $125 a week for her services. (Yes, Toto was a female.) Judy Garland got $500 a week for a lot more work, and no doubt many of the extras got much less than the dog. (According to Jerry Maren, who played a Munchkin, the Munchkins got $50 a week.)

5. Changing colors

The lights required for Technicolor were so bright that Dorothy's dress, which appears blue and white, was actually blue and pink. Also, the slippers -- silver in Baum's book -- were made red to show off the process. Incidentally, the five known pairs from the film are each worth $1.5 million today.

6. Oscar! Oscar!

"The Wizard of Oz" was hugely successful in its initial run and nominated for six Oscars (though one of them, for color cinematography, is considered "unofficial" on the Academy's database). It won two, one for its score, one for "Over the Rainbow" -- which was almost cut from the film. Director Victor Fleming came out well, too. Though not nominated for "Oz," he won for directing the year's best picture winner, "Gone with the Wind."

7. 'Dark Side' of the rainbow

At some point in the '90s, word went around that Pink Floyd's 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon" synced up with the movie in eerie ways. Though members of Floyd swear it's pure coincidence -- and psychologists will tell you that we see links where we want to -- some of the matchups are striking: "The Great Gig in the Sky" meshes well with the tornado; the old Side 1 of the album ends just as the sepia-colored portion of the movie does; and the heartbeat at the album's close coincides with Dorothy listening to the Tin Man's torso. Even if it's bull, it still makes for entertaining watching.

The Associated Press reports that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were married on Aug. 23 in Chateau Miraval, France, according to a spokesman for the couple.

The couple reportedly married in a private ceremony attended by family and friends. Pitt and Jolie obtained a marriage license from a local California judge, who also conducted the ceremony in France.

Pitt and Jolie's six children were also in the wedding. Jolie walked the aisle with her eldest sons Maddox, 13, and Pax, 11. Zahara, 9, and Vivienne, 6, threw flower petals while Shiloh, 8, and Knox, 6, served as ring bearers.

Jolie, 39, and Pitt, 50, started dating while working together on the 2005 film "Mr. And Mrs. Smith." The couple, dubbed Brangelina, got engaged in April 2012 after seven years of dating.

The "Maleficent" star spoke to People about her wedding plans in May 2014:

"We're just waiting for it to be the right time with the kids, with work, when it feels right," Jolie said.

"We talk about it occasionally, and the kids talk about it with us, which is verging on hysterical, how kids envision a wedding. They will in a way be the wedding planners. It's going to be Disney or paintball - one or the other! We've got a lot of different personalities in the house. They've got some strong opinions," she continued.

"It will be fun. That's the important thing. When we do it, it will feel like a great day for our family," Jolie said.

"I come from Ikorodu, Lagos state. I am married to a dashing young lawyer of 70 years of age and we have four grown up gentlemen and grandchildren. It has not been a rag to riches fairytale. It has not been an overnight phenomenon like some cases which you find here and there all over the world. For as long as I can remember, I had always wanted my own business. Hard work...am trying to tell you how I got to where I am if you want those billions. Hard work, diligence, persistence...days where you nearly gave up but I chose not to give up."

It would have been easy to compromise but I chose not to and I stayed focus. I could have stayed a secretary as my father desired according to his plan for me but I had bigger aspirations. I dreamt big. God strengthened me and gave me wisdom. I had a passion and burning desire to succeed. Being a secretary, a banker, a fashion icon, a cooperate promoter and printer, a real estate owner, an oil magnate, that I can assure you was no easy feat.

Firm belief that what is worth doing is what doing well or not doing at all. I took charge of my life with the tools I have shared with you. I chose to become born again at the age of 40. I chose to make a covenant with God that if he would bless me I would work for him all the days of my life.

I chose to hold on to the cross and look up to him every step of the way. Today additional accomplishment includes a wife of almost 40 years, a mother, grandmother, ministry, counseling, outreach, NGO Rose of Sharon Foundation for widows and Author, writer, author of several inspirational books.

All I say to the glory of God. So I am 63 and I am not yet done. So what is your excuse? I never went to a University and I am proud to say so because I don't think I have done too badly. You do not have to have a University education to be able to make it so count yourselves privileged to have that education as part of the feather in your cap" she said.

7 Time-Wasting Mistakes You’re Making at the Gym

$

81be1e4a92570d71_99433617

It takes effort to get to the gym on a regular basis, so once you're there, make sure you're not wasting your time. Stop these seven gym mistakes now to cut minutes from your workout while still increasing its effectiveness.

  1. Socializing too much: We love our workout buddies as much as anyone else, but when it comes to gym time, make sure you and your buddy are on the same workout wavelength. That means she should be just as dedicated to an effective workout as you so you can both get in and get out (and then catch up!).
  2. Going slow and steady: Not every workout has to be a sweaty endeavor, but if your go-to gym workout involves reading a magazine on the treadmill — or, even worse, talking on your phone — you're wasting your time. Speed it up with intervals so you can push your potential — and your calorie burn.
  3. Not having a plan: If you've gotten to the gym but you're not sure what to do, trying to decide on the right exercise can be a major waste of time. Before you go to the gym, take a few moments to plan how you should be working out; you'll get to the gym and know exactly what you should be doing. If you need some inspiration, keep a few of our POPSUGAR Fitness printable workouts stashed in your gym bag.
  4. Taking too many breaks: Keeping your heart rate up is key to your workout success, so if your workout is full of breaks and water-fountain trips, it's time to cut a few out of your routine. Limit breaks between intense intervals and circuits (by doing supersets) to reap your workout's cardio and calorie-burning benefits in a shorter amount of time.
  5. Idling in the locker room: If you're not focused, a quick locker-room trip can turn into 20 minutes of trying to find your socks or being distracted by your phone. Keep your gym bag organized, and try to go to the gym at off-peak times if possible in order to make the locker-room stop quicker.
  6. Only using the machines: Sure, those strength-training machines can help you work certain muscles, but often they are just a waste of time. Using the machines at the gym means you become less engaged with your workout and are also only spot-training muscle groups — both of which are prime time-wasters. Cut your time on muscle-isolating gym machines, and use that time instead for total-body strength-training moves, like this full-body circuit workout with weights.
  7. Not knowing what you're doing: If you're new to the gym, going in without any advice or instruction can mean a haphazard gym trip; even worse, your gym newbie status can lead you to perform moves improperly for an ineffective workout. Instead, take advantage of the free training consultation many gyms provide; you'll be able to learn more about essential strength-training moves and the gym floor setup. You should also take beginner-level fitness classes so you can follow along and learn instead of trying to figure it out yourself; being part of a class can make the gym feel less intimidating when you're new.

5 Things to know about the celebrity nude photo hacking scandal

$
0
0

hacking_wordcloud

A hacker's invasion of dozens of celebrity iCloud accounts, leading to the embarrassing leaking of nude photos, has lessons for us all. Here are five things you should know about what happened.

Who's been hacked?

There's a list of 100 celebrity women -- and one man -- whose photos were supposedly downloaded and stolen by a hacker. It includes A-listers, notably Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, and D-listers whose names you may not recognize. Many of them only found out they were victims because of media reports naming them, but others -- such as Lawrence -- found out when social networks exploded with buzz about nude photos being distributed online.

Lawrence and two others, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead and model-actress Kate Upton, almost immediately confirmed the images were of them. Several others -- including singer Ariana Grande, gymnast McKayla Maroney and singer-actress Victoria Justice -- said photos supposed to be of them were fakes.

Justice later tweeted that she did, in fact, suffer "a serious violation of privacy," with real photos leaked.

While Rihanna is on the list, it might have been a waste of a hacker's energy, because the singer is known for frequently sharing revealing photos of herself on Twitter and Instagram.

Being on the hacked celebrity list doesn't mean the hackers actually found any racy photos. Actress-singer Keke Palmer, 21, was on the list, but has never taken or kept nude photos on her phone or elsewhere, her mother said. The former Nickelodeon star, now playing Cinderella on Broadway, was taught early in her career about the dangers, she said.

Others reportedly hacked include: Aubrey Plaza, Avril Lavigne, Cat Deeley, Farrah Abraham, Gabrielle Union, Hayden Panettiere, Hope Solo, Hillary Duff, Jenny McCarthy, Kate Bosworth, Kim Kardashian, Kirsten Dunst, Mary Kate Olsen, Meagan Good, Sarah Schneider, Selena Gomez, Teresa Palmer, Vanessa Hudgens and Winona Ryder.

The one male on the list is actor Dave Franco, but to the disappointment of some female fans, no nude photos of Franco have emerged.

Why would celebrities have nude photos of themselves on their cell phones?

There may not be one answer for this, but distance from love interests could be a major factor. Actors spend months away from spouses and lovers while making movies. Musicians tour the world for months. Sexting can become a substitute for intimacy when a relationship goes long distance.

Of course, some bathroom mirror selfies may be snapped and kept as a way to measure progress on a diet or to assess the need for a tummy tuck or update with the plastic surgeon.

Other celebs, however, have enjoyed career boosts when supposedly inadvertent leaks of nude photos or videos have gone viral. Ask Kim Kardashian about that. Her career highlight was as Paris Hilton's personal assistant before the world discovered her sex tape.

Another way nude photos might find their way onto a celebrity's cell phone is just plain naiveté. Maybe they don't realize images on their iPhones are automatically backed up by iCloud, or perhaps they thought iCloud was a safe place for their data.

How did the hacking happen?

The hacker apparently took advantage of a security flaw in Apple's online backup service, iCloud. Many online services lock someone out after several unsuccessful attempts to log in, but not Apple's "Find My iPhone" app and iCloud. That has been changed by Apple in the aftermath of the nude celebrity photo scandal. But with unlimited guesses, a computer program can generate and test thousands of potential passwords until an account is entered. It is called a "brute force" attack.

The tendency of many people to choose weak passwords and to use the same password for each service helped. Once a celebrity's "Find My iPhone" app password is discovered, the same password often can access iCloud. People might never know their accounts have been compromised.

Another thing makes the famous more vulnerable. Wikipedia and many other websites provide biographical information that can help a hacker guess passwords or answers to security questions.

Nearly a decade ago, Paris Hilton's Sidekick cell phone was accessed when a hacker guessed her password was Tinkerbell, the name of her famous teacup chihuahua.

Apple said on Tuesday that the company's core computer systems, which house all its users' data, were not hacked. "Certain celebrity accounts were compromised by a very targeted attack on user names, passwords and security questions, a practice that has become all too common on the Internet," Apple said.

How can you safeguard against hackers?

Learn from the woes of your role models, the celebrities.

Choose strong, hard-to-guess passwords. Long but easy to remember pass phrases that include numbers are suggested. Have variations for different email accounts, bank accounts and apps. If one is hacked, it does not compromise your entire virtual world.

Many services, including Apple's, offer the option of two-factor authentication. After you enter your permanent password, you are asked for a second temporary password or number that is automatically generated and sent to you in a text message.

A hacker would not have been able to access those celebrity photos unless he or she also had the celebrity's cell phone.

Another safeguard is to be aware that even when you delete a photo or video from your iPhone, it is possibly backed up by iCloud. The service allows you to access images on all your devices, but it also keeps those you might think are deleted.

Actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead tweeted that the photos of her that were leaked were "deleted long ago."

What penalty could the hacker pay?

A stiff prison sentence is the short answer.

Jennifer Lawrence's representatives said investigators have been contacted and "will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence."

The FBI's Los Angeles office confirmed Monday that it was investigating the hacking. "The FBI is aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high-profile individuals, and is addressing the matter," the agency's spokeswoman said.

The same office caught a Florida man who hacked celebrity email accounts in 2011. Christopher Chaney, whose targets included actresses Scarlett Johansson and Mila Kunis and singer Christina Aguilera, was charged with accessing protected computers without authorization, damaging protected computers, wiretapping and aggravated identity theft.

Officials, aid groups rip world’s response to ‘spiraling’ Ebola outbreak

ebola-virus-3

The Ebola outbreak is much worse than official figures show and is "spiraling out of control," a leading U.S. official said Tuesday -- due in part, he said, to some countries that inadvertently have made it harder to corral the deadly disease.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Tom Frieden offered his stark commentary to CNN a day after Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the president of Liberia, voiced dissatisfaction with the world response so far.

"In a way, we feel saddened by the response," President Sirleaf said.

More than 3,000 people have been infected by Ebola in Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Nigeria since the first documented cases in December, according to the World Health Organization. At least 1,552 have died.

Making it worse, Frieden said, is how other countries have turned their backs on those coming from countries where the outbreak is strongest, even if they don't realize it.

Ebola-1

Measures to restrict flights and border crossings into the countries facing the outbreak were designed to contain the spread, but are having a paradoxical effect, he explained.

"This is making it really hard to get help in and to respond effectively to the outbreak," he said on CNN's "New Day."

"What we're seeing is a ... hugely fast increase in cases that's harder and harder to manage," he said. "The more we can get in there and tamp that down, the fewer cases we'll have in the weeks and months to come."

The president of Doctors Without Borders sharply criticized what she called the "global coalition of inaction" for focusing on insulating their nations instead of helping those in Africa who need it most. Dr. Joanne Liu said centers run by her group have turned away sick because they are too full, as an ever-increasing number of people develop symptoms of Ebola.

"States with the required capacity have a political and humanitarian responsibility to come forward and offer a desperately needed, concrete response to the disaster unfolding in front of the world's eyes ... rather than limit their response to the potential arrival of an infected patient in their countries," Liu said.

Ebola-virus-pink-jpg

In her CNN interview, President Sirleaf of Liberia appealed for other nations to "please work as partners with us" by offering monetary, health care, logistical and other assistance, yes, but also by giving moral and personal support to a problem that's affected millions already.

"Give us hope by joining us in this fight," Sirleaf said. "Don't instill fear. We need that hope, we need that assistance, we need for Liberians to know that this war can be won."

Obama sends message to people of West Africa

The U.S. government tried to get front-and-center on the issue Tuesday, led by President Barack Obama.

Speaking "directly to ... the people of West Africa" in a video message, Obama said America's prayers are with those impacted by the disease and reiterated basic facts to educate locals on how Ebola spreads.

"Stopping this disease won't be easy, but we know how to do it," Obama said. "You are not alone. Together, we can treat those who are sick with respect and dignity, we can save lives, and our countries can work together to improve public health so this kind of outbreak doesn't happen again."

Obama insisted his government is working those in Africa to make a difference: To this point, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said more than 500 staff members from the CDC -- the U.S. health agency focused on infectious diseases, including Ebola -- are on the case, including 70 of the roughly 100 U.S. government personnel that are on the ground in hard-hit areas.

These government workers in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone are doing things like "surveillance, contact tracing, database management and health education," Earnest said.

But they aren't the only Americans on the ground, putting themselves in harm's way to help others.

Many are there as part of humanitarian groups, like two who contracted Ebola earlier this summer. They were sent to Atlanta's Emory University Hospital, where they were treated and later released.

On Tuesday, a group called Serving in Mission announced that another American -- a doctor working in Liberia's capital --- had tested positive for Ebola.

The doctor, whose name was not released, was not treating Ebola patients and it's not known how he contracted the disease, SIM USA said. One of the other Americans infected with Ebola, Nancy Writebol, also was working on a SIM USA mission.

The unnamed American doctor immediately isolated himself upon the onset of symptoms, and is currently in an Ebola isolation unit, the group said.

"The doctor is doing well and is in good spirits," SIM USA said in a statement.

Sirleaf: 'We have no option but to succeed'

The prognosis for all of West Africa, though, isn't good.

Frieden, the CDC director, says what's happening now is worse that past Ebola outbreaks.

"This is the first epidemic spreading widely through many countries, and it is spiraling out of control," said Frieden, who recently returned from a trip to the region. "It's bad now, much worse than the numbers show. It's going to get even worse in the very near future."

That's bad news for places like Liberia, where President Sirleaf notes "primary ... hospitals have had to close because they became incubators for the disease and ... Ebola has been spreading quite rapidly."

The crisis is threatening already fragile economies.

Vincent Martin, head of the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization's Dakar-based Resilience Hub, noted that some households in affected areas were spending up to 80% of their income on food before the outbreak -- and now prices are rising as people stock up on food, fearing it will run out.

Plus, restricted movement between countries has created labor shortages on farms, the FAO reports. The main harvest season for crops such as rice and maize is weeks away, and what was predicted to be a favorable harvest is now at risk, the agency said.

Then there's the matter of locals who can't work because they or loved ones are infected, who aren't going out and spending as much due to fears tied to the crisis, or whose livelihoods are threatened because economies have become more insulated.

Sirleaf says "the great progress" the economy of Liberia, at least, is now "under question because of the Ebola crisis."

That said, she stressed that there's only one path forward -- to defeat the disease and return to some semblance of normal.

"I'm very hopeful that we will beat this," the Liberian President said. "We have to. We have no option but to succeed in this."

Surgeons are helping a teenager save his neck by shortening it.

Fu Wengui, 15, of Beijing, is preparing to go under the knife because he's reportedly caused immense pain by the three extra vertebrae in his neck.

The teen has 10 vertebrae in his neck while the average person has seven, according to Quirky China, which released photos of him at the hospital. The vertebrae compress his nerves, making it difficult for him to walk. When he was six he was diagnosed with congenital scoliosis and abnormal chest frame," Wengui's father, Fu Genyou, told agency.

Congenital scoliosis is a spinal deformity caused by abnormally formed vertebrae, and usually occurs in early development, according to the Scoliosis Research Society. Wengui's surgery will reduce the size of his neck and hopefully enhance movement and reduce pain.

A Beijing-based charity will sponsor his surgery at Chaoyang Hospital, which is working on a treatment plan, according to Quirky News' press release.

"I just hope I can have a normal neck," Wengui said

Mr Ho, 50, was dismantling a property in Guangxi Province in China when a steel rod fell from above. Miraculously, he managed to survive the rod's impact, entering through the right side of his forehead and exiting through the left side of his jaw.
Paramedics called to treat Mr Ho were astounded to find him entirely conscious and lucid, despite the inch-thick rod embedded inside him.

After having fire fighters removed most of the metal bar outside his head, Mr Ho was moved to a larger hospital for further treatment. Complex emergency surgery allowed doctors to remove the remainder successfully and staff say Mr Ho is recovering well and out of danger.

Today I  just read through this article and I have seriously changed my opinion about the so called vampire footballer, Suarez.  He only attempted to bite his victims but he never sank his teeth this deep to taste the blood of his victims. People judged Suarez because he tried 3 times and never succeeded in tasting the bloods of his victims.

Here is a story I would like you guys to read and judge, between Suarez and Rhys Culley, who is actually the vampire? If Rhys Culley was a footballer what would everyone say about this young lad, would we say he is ….judge for yourselves ?

Rhys Culley, of South Shields, asked girlfriend Chanttelle Ward if she loved him before he sank his teeth into the 18-year-old's flesh. Rhys Culley asked pretty Chanttelle Ward if she loved him before he sank his teeth into the 18-year-old’s flesh during a kiss.

Culley, 23, was jealous and insecure about what his girlfriend was doing while he was working away when he decided to disfigure her.

The attack was so severe, Ms Ward was convinced her top lip had come off. Miss Ward told jurors during the trial Culley had tried to kiss her and asked her if she still loved him before the bite.

“There was blood everywhere.” They had been celebrating Miss Ward’s mother’s birthday and at about 10.30pm Miss Ward, the defendant and her aunt Susan Stewart shared a taxi home, dropping her aunt off first.

When the defendant and his girlfriend got back to her house, the mood of the night changed. The defendant brought up a conversation that his girlfriend had had with another man on Facebook earlier in the month.

The defendant then took Miss Ward’s phone off her in a bid to look through her Facebook messages. The court heard how when he found that the messages were no longer there he became angry and started to shout at Miss Ward accusing her of having something to hide.

At this point, Miss Ward told the court, she realised that something was wrong and that this wasn’t a ‘normal’ argument for the pair, who had been together for almost two and a half years.

She became scared and lifted her phone to call the defendant’s mother to ask him to come and get him. But Culley is said to have taken the phone from his victim, he also locked the doors so that she couldn’t escape. Miss Dowling said that after Culley had bitten his victim, he “rubbed his face in hers, smearing the blood across her face and then he stuck his tongue into her mouth.

“When the police arrived they saw that they both had blood on them and over their faces.”Culley was arrested and Miss Ward was taken to hospital to have her injuries examined.

She suffered not only the injuries to her mouth, but bruising to her arms and body, a scratch to her left breast, bruising of the face and ear.

Joan Rivers dies at age 81

joan-rivers-640x360

Joan Rivers started her career as a stand-up comedian quick to poke fun at herself -- at her body, her family responsibilities and being a misfit within an unaccommodating world.

By the time she died Thursday at 81, Rivers had become a worldwide celebrity. But she was still a misfit, biting the well-groomed hands that fed her.

The comedian was quick-witted and sharp-tongued, known for standing on the red carpet or presiding over her show "Fashion Police" and, she said, saying the things that other people were thinking.

Rivers, the pioneering, sassy comedian whose gossipy "can we talk" persona led to a career as a headlining talk-show host, best-selling author and red-carpet maven, died a week after being rushed to the hospital after suffering cardiac arrest at a Manhattan clinic.

She earned several honors over her career. She was nominated for a Grammy and a Tony, and won a Daytime Emmy for her early-'90s talk show. She had a successful jewelry line that she sold on QVC.

She almost never apologized and rarely looked back. After all, she said, it was her bluntness that made her who she was.

"I succeeded by saying what everyone else is thinking," she said. Rivers is survived by her daughter, Melissa, and a grandson, Cooper.
