Ghanaian photographer Nana Kofi Acquah, popularly known as AFRICASHOWBOY, is a photographer with a purpose. He is a torchbearer in the re-positioning of Africa through new imagery. With his lens, he tells the story of Africa in light and color. His keen appreciation of light, texture and composition offers a delightful and surreal insight into Africa. A former Creative Director turned photographer, Acquah’s work has been exhibited throughout Europe, Africa and United States. Whether he’s photographing a group of locals playing soccer on the beach or a still life image of stones found on a crosswalk, Acquah’s work show a great understanding of color and affection for his subject. Each image will leave you questioning the story behind the lens. Nana’s work can be deceptively beautiful, often shrouding a provocative theme in a colorful, glossy look or atmospheric black and white tones.
In his net girl series, some of his models strike regal poses wearing nothing but beautiful and colorful net attires or are accessorized with spongy nets. If you are like me, the first color you will notice here, is the black of their skin. The dark tones of their sub-kissed skin resonates through his lens and is so strikingly beautiful that you would long for that shade yourself. The backdrop for this shoot is of course the exotic African landscape highlighted by the sun.
