18 Ministerial Nominees, Including Amaechi, to be Confirmed Today

The Nigerian senate is to confirm screening of 18 ministerial nominees today, October 29th, 2015. The senate concluded the screening of the ministerial nominees yesterday after days of screening. Among the ministerial nominees to be confirmed is former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, whose ministerial nomination was a cause of controversy due to the petition filed against him on grounds of corruption during his government. Amaechi’s screening was deferred following the inability of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges and Public Petitions to submit its report on a petition filed against him but was later screened on Thursday, October 23rd, 2015 with remarkable success.

The Senate received the complete list of 37 ministerial nominees from President Mohammadu Buhari (PMB) on Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 and the subsequent list on October 12th, 2015 and the first set of 18 nominees to be screened and confirmed unanimously were immediate past Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, his Ekiti State counterpart, Dr. Kayode Fayemi,  Alhaji Lai Mohammed , Dr. Chris Ngige,  Dr. Ibe Kachikwu; Abubakar Malami (SAN), Senator Aisha Alhassan, Barr. Solomon Dalong, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, Senator Hadi Sirika, Chief Audu Ogbeh and Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu; Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Lt. Gen Abdulrahman Danbazzau (retd), Mrs. Amina Mohammed, Suleiman Adamu and Ibrahim Jubrin.

The remaining 18 are also expected to be confirmed at plenary on Thursday, as indicated by the Senate President, Bukula Saraki, after the screening on Wednesday.

The ministerial nominees screened  and awaiting confirmation are Okechukwu Enelamah, Anwuka Anthony, Mohammed Musa Bello, Adamu Adamu and Aisha Abubakar, Prof Adewale Folorunsho, Zainab Ahmed, Bawa Bwari, Geoffrey Onyeama, Mohammed Dan Ali and Usani Uguru amonmg a few others.
