The Nipple Gap: Why You Won’t See Real Women in Rihanna’s Dress Any Time Soon

Rihanna

When we’re not assessing Rihanna’s ironic ownership of Instagram, our thoughts turn to what these fearless nipply looks of late mean for the rest of us. Rihanna can break rules, but her nips are in another stratosphere than everyone else’s. Scout Willis beautifully articulated her own recent decision to leverage her status to get people talking about double body standards. One-upping Willis’ naked chest was no small feat, but the next day Rihanna did, forwarding the cause at the CFDA Awards in a sheer crystal Adam Selman gown. She raised the stakes by showing pretty much everything except for what her strategic furry loin leaf hid. This is a woman who isn’t just having a bit of fun with fashion, even though that’s what she was honored for. She’s showing the world that Instagram will never successfully deny the world of the viewing pleasure of her chest. But are having fancy free nipples are a celebrity privilege? BpL_Bh5IQAAkJsl Online, commenters are quick to gawk and drool over Rihanna’s dress. The majority of people rally behind Scout Willis’ cause. But wanting to create change doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get what you want. Do I envy their ballsy approach to undressing? Probably, especially when people feel they have a right to dictate my how high the neck of my shirts and dresses are when I’m in my 20s. It must be liberating. But celebrities are also uniquely fortunate to have the freedom to make a fashion statement, even if it’s one of dissension. For Rihanna, it’s power nippling, but for real women it might be a shorcut to the asylum. A girl can’t go to any class or school function without getting kicked out for inspiring impure thoughts. Fine, they’re younger and can expect demands to play by the unfair rules. A better illustrative example is the activist Moira Johnston who walked around East Village. News outlets leapt into the fray with a storm of hate-flecked wording that amounted to very flashy degradation. She was… apparently protesting? Or she was… wandering around? Men and women in the sewer of the comments sections told her to put on her shirt, that her breasts were saggy. They laughed at pictures of the men who gawked at her. People terrorized by female sexuality are going to go HAM on some bare nipples regardless, and celebrities are not safe from body-shaming. But without fame, the message is obfuscated. Not famous? You’ll be received not as confident, but as “uppity” as it were, or desperate, or a kooky woman who forgot her top. Rihanna’s a performer who has in-jokes with Anna Wintour. Me traipsing around like I’m a painter’s muse, though extremely noble, might provoke an intervention among friends. Maybe Go Topless Day will work. Or even better, Rihanna will inspire women to be proud of their bodies, patriarchy and haters be damned. Women will walk out around town hand in hand all vajazzled and jug-jazzled, and receive looks of understanding and hi-fives from everyone in their war path. But for a normal woman to walk out in a dress like this now, she’ll either need a bodyguard or a more successful #freethenipple movement.

6 Ways You’re Doing Squats Wrong

squat-tips

Squats are one of the best exercises for a stronger, fitter you—but only if you do them right. So before you crank out another rep, make sure your squats aren't falling victim to these all-too-common mistakes: Letting Your Knees Fall In A combination of wide hips and weak inner and outer thighs makes this mistake pretty much ubiquitous among women. Unfortunately, when your knees move in toward each other during a squat, it can put undue pressure on your knee ligaments, resulting in injury, says exercise physiologist Marta Montenegro, C.S.C.S. But correcting this mistake isn't as simple as willing your knees into place. You need to strengthen your inner and (especially) outer thighs, she says. Lateral band walks are a great way to do just that. Not Lowering to 90 Degrees If you don't complete the exercise through its full range of motion—all the way down until your thighbone is parallel with the floor—you won't fully engage your glutes and the upper part of your hamstrings, says Montenegro. Basically, you won't get a better butt. To train your body to complete the entire move, try practicing some squats in front of a knee-high box or step. Lower your body until your butt just barely touches the box, and then push back up. Arching Your Back Your back naturally has a slight "S" to it. If you don't have enough lower back strength—and many women don't—it's easy to add some extra arch while squatting. The problem: That dumps the weight into your lower back and means you risk injury, says Montenegro. To shore up your lower-back strength, try performing this dumbbell straight-leg deadlift. Doing the Same Squat Over and Over If you aren't regularly switching up your foot positions, you aren't taking advantage of what a versatile exercise the squat really is, says Montenegro. For instance, if you stand with your feet closer than shoulder-width apart, you'll target your glutes. Take a wide stance, and you'll work those hard-to-tone inner thighs. Move one leg forward a bit, and your booty will burn. Interested? Here are seven squat variations you NEED to try. Lifting Too Little If you complete your squats with lighter-weight dumbbells in-hand, you might want to consider reaching for something heavier. "Women tend to think that because we want to slim our legs, we should do a lot of reps with a low weight," says Montenegro. "But if you don't lift more weight, you aren't going to tone anything." Plus, when you lift heavier, you burn more calories. Her advice: Try upping the poundage of your hand weights so that you can only eek out six reps at a time (with proper form, of course!). Going to Too-Great Pains to Keep Your Knees Behind Your Toes "For so many years, it has been ingrained in our brains that the knees should never go past the toes when squatting," says American Council on Exercise-certified personal trainer Jessica Matthews, assistant professor of exercise science at Miramar College. While letting your knees move past your toes increases the stress placed on them by 28 percent, trying to restrict any forward movement of the knees ups the stress placed on your hips by a whopping 1,000 percent, according to a 2003 University of Memphis study. So instead of dwelling on your knees and toes, focus on starting the squat by pushing your hips back before lowering your body toward the floor, says Matthews. That will automatically reduce how far forward your knees travel, but without pre-registering you for a hip replacement.

Fashion Faceoff: Rihanna vs. Peter Griffin in the Same Sheer, Sparkly Dress

It would be awfully hard for anyone to top Rihanna‘s major style moment at the CFDA Awards Monday, in which she brought traffic to a screeching halt as she hit the red carpet in a completely sheer Adam Selman gown embroidered with hundreds of thousands of Swarovski crystals (see the designer’s Instagram video below), plus matching gloves and headscarf and a whole lot of chutzpah. We thought it would be quite a while before Rih had any challengers to her fashion throne, but as it turns out, it was only a matter of minutes before someone took her on on her own turf. And that someone … is Peter Griffin, the clueless, tubby patriarch of the Fox animated sitcom Family Guy. Griffin was portrayed wearing the same lilac gown, gloves and stole, similar earrings and shoes, and the exact same undergarments (which is to say, very little). rih&pete1 And it appears Rihanna wasn’t feeling threatened by Griffin’s style statement, instead choosing to believe that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. “He gets it!” she Tweeted along with a split of the two wearing the same look — then she changed her Twitter profile photo to be Griffin in the gown. (Her Twitter cover photo remains her own rear view, however — she was kind enough to spare us the 180° look at Griffin’s behind.)

How To Build A Better World Cup Ball

NOW_soccer

At the 2010 World Cup, Adidas debuted the Jabulani, the tournament’s official game ball. It flopped. Players lamented its tendency to break unpredictably in the air—a consequence of its smooth stitching (see “The Physics of Flying Objects,” below). With this summer’s Cup to prepare for, Adidas didn’t want to repeat its mistake. The company tested the new Brazuca with more than 600 players over the course of three years. Although the ball has fewer panels than its predecessor—six versus eight—its seams are three times deeper, giving it less drag, which helps ensure it’ll fly where a player wants.

The Physics Of Flying Objects

The amount of drag an object experiences determines how it will fly through the air; the less outside forces it interacts with, the truer it will fly. As air passes over a smooth sphere, like the Jabulani, it breaks away from the surface, cutting a wide path that’s susceptible to forces such as wind. A more-textured sphere, like the Brazuca, holds airflow close to the object, creating a narrower path that’s harder to disrupt.

An Expert Kicker

One of the Brazuca testers was U.S. Men’s National Team defender Omar Gonzalez. As a defender, Gonzalez sends plenty of long passes up the field. Here, he explains how to do so successfully: Step 1: Find your target “I make eye contact with a teammate to make sure he’s on the same page as I am. When he’s getting ready to take off, I know I have to lead him with a long pass.” Step 2: Strike the ball “Try to have more technique rather than hitting the heck out of the ball. Plant your nonkicking foot next to the ball, and strike the ball below the middle so you can get some flight on it.” Step 3: Follow through “You want to have a nice, easy swing to make contact with the ball. I try to follow through in the direction I’m trying to hit the ball. When I do that, I know it will be getting to my teammate.”

A Way To Harvest Energy From Toilet Flushes

The average Nigerian flushes 24 gallons of water down the toilet daily, while—don't get me wrong, toilets; we appreciate all of your hard work—maybe some of the energy used in a flush could be put to an additional use. Here's one way: harvest some of the energy from the water and use it for power. A team of researchers in South Korea have created a transducer that translates water motion—from toilets, raindrops, or other water-based uses—into electricity. The technical side is wonky, but essentially, by using the motion from a tiny droplet of water—30 microliters—the team was able to power a small green LED. It's a proof-of-concept demonstration, but scale up to a flushing toilet or a rainstorm, and you can see the appeal. Researchers in South Korea have devised a way to harness the motion of water, including from raindrops or from a flushing toilet, as a sustainable energy source. Devices that renewably generate electricity in an uncomplicated manner are in demand. Now, Youn Sang Kim and his team at Seoul National University and Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) have adapted a transducer to convert the mechanical energy from water motion into electrical energy. When dielectric materials are in water, an electrical double layer forms around the outside of the material. Variations between water and a poly (4 vinyl phenol) dielectric layer were shown to induce electric charges at an electrode. The team demonstrated that in such a system the motion from a 30μl water droplet generated enough electricity to power a green LED. ‘We hope our work can be applied to everyday life,’ says Kim. This is a realistic possibility as the electrodes are flexible and transparent so could coat windows, roofs and even toilet bowls, to generate electricity from raindrops and water flow. You can watch the process yourself in the video below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=MsLpOoSzK74

Tyra taught her to smize, but will Yaya sing too? TVLine reports that Yaya DaCosta, who made her television debut in Cycle 3 of "America's Next Top Model," has been cast to play Whitney Houston in Lifetime's upcoming biopic. The Brown graduate (as she frequently reminded us on the show) has made a name for herself since taking second place in the modeling competition, nabbing acting roles in "All My Children," "Ugly Betty," "House" and even "Lee Daniel's The Butler." whitney-houston Which contestant has had the most successful post-'ANTM' career? Lifetime previously announced that Oscar winner Angela Bassett (who appeared most recently in "American Horror Story") will direct the film about the pop star, who died two years ago at 48. Yaya-DaCosta Lifetime's project will focus on Houston's tumultuous relationship with the model, singer, and songwriter Bobby Brown, which continued throughout much of her career. "Whitney Houston" (working title) marks Bassett's first directorial debut and is scheduled to premiere in 2015. Lifetime doing Whitney Houston movie with Angela Bassett Basset co-starred with Houston in 1995′s "Waiting to Exhale," making this something of a personal project for the actress. In a previous statement, Basset noted, "I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."

The Return Of The 2009′s Most Hideous Shoe

clogs-1

We’re 100% here for “what goes around comes around,” both as a J.T. song and a reason for fashion to turn a saying about karma into a reason you’re itching to DIY cornrows with glittery miniature butterfly clips. But Vogue, bro, there’s a certain amount of time one must wait before heralding a trend as a resurgence, and that time is not the same amount of time that has passed since Susan Boyle dreamed a dream. (2009, if you were trying to forget.) “It’s the shoe for those of us who appreciate the lines of a mule (the added length to the leg, the exposed ankle-bone) combined with the cavalier demeanor of a spa sandal. These are not the crocs of Mario Batali, not a flash-in-the-pan hashtag-emblazoned trend—these are the shoes of indisputably epic summer style icons from Jane Birkin to Marcia Brady: the lower-leg equivalent of a bronzed shoulder peeking out of a peasant blouse, an ankle reveal between a cropped jean and a classic clog.” clogs-chanel11 Wonderful writing, but the most admirable part of this ode is that it fails to mention the horrific resurgence wooden clogs experienced only five years go. You don’t have to be a fashion person to remember the last time these things were “back.” But if you are you’ll remember Chanel’s Spring 2010 collection, which heavily featured wooden clogs, heavily adorned with poppies and crystals and calf ties that looked like awkward tan lines from from someone who went to the beach dressed as a basting Christmas ham. Miu Miu did them with cats, and Louis Vuitton with festival fringe tassels. And soon clogs were an epidemic. They were on Olsen twins, Alexa Chung, Rachel Bilson, and even Ashlee Simpson. 9833-Frye-women-s-tan-waxed-suede-Naiya-platform-clogs-1 Thanks to Steve Madden and Payless Shoes, they were also on us. There was a wooden platform monstrosity for every foot — or, rather, for every budget. By a cost-per-wear analysis, by which we mean cost-per-footstep until you accidentally kick one off your own foot and into the back of an elderly person’s head, we’re talking approximately $500 for the Chanel version. But in that snazzy vinyl pair with unevenly placed studs? You were still getting a bangin’ as bargain even if you only wore them once because doing so made even the softest of footsteps sound like those of a tap dancing elephant. Another problem with heralding the return of the clog right this second is that people are obsessed with shoving socks under any and every incarnation of sandal they can. Sure, if you’re Chloë Sevigny you’re earned the right to assemble worse pairings than short ribs and moscato. But for the rest of us this just sounds like an accident waiting to happen. By all means wear clogs if your life requires you to move only at a glacial pace. But there is no way, as Vogue claims, such an impractical shoe is the logical conclusion of the ugly-cool trend — which, no matter how abrasive, always has comfort at its heart. It is absence that makes the heart grow fonder — and these things have been absent for not nearly long enough.

If you think Rihanna’s Gone ‘Rogue’ Then You Need To See The 8 Banned Perfume Ads

Evidently not realizing that censoring Rihanna is the easiest way to ensure she ends up EVERYWHERE, the somebodies at the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority have deemed a poster advertisement for Rihanna’s “Rogue” perfume ad simply too gosh darn sexy for youngsters’ eyes. he advert apparently received a complaint about it being “sexualized and provocative” as well as demeaning to women and inappropriate for children. ”While we did not consider the image to be overtly sexual, we considered that Rihanna’s pose, with her legs raised in the air, was provocative,” the ASA claims. “Because of this, and the fact that Rihanna appeared to be naked except for high heels, we concluded that the ad was sexually suggestive and should have been given a placement restriction to reduce the possibility of it being seen by children.” 1. Tom Ford for Men (2007) Zero prizes for guessing who shot this greasy campaign for Tom Ford’s fragrance for men. Evidently the team gave Terry Richardson free reign to run with his porno chic desires, turning them into a series of simple flash close-ups. Some thought it was even worse that the model was faceless, but we’d rather not be privy to the fact she’s probably 16. To see the image for this add you need to Google it and decide for yourself if it is actually an advert. Lol 2. Marc Jacobs Bang (2010) Just in case the “BANG” part didn’t grab your attention, here’s Marc Jacobs oiled up like a bodybuilder and molesting a five gallon bottle. The ads are obvious riffing off Tom Ford’s, thought the message is a little more convoluted due to the fact that Jacobs is a man. marcjacobs_gq_3aug10_pr_b 3. Yves St Laurent Pour Homme (1971) Oh snap! Yves Saint Laurent’s man scent used designer nudity long before Marc Jacobs’. The bespectacled and de-suited Laurent was photographed by Jeanloup Sieff for the brand’s first male fragrance, Pour Homme, in 1971. The ad didn’t actually pose too much damage to youngsters’ eyes at the time. Screen- 4. Calvin Klein Secret Obsession (2008) Usurping the controversial Klein girl title from Brooke Shields and Kate Moss, Eva Mendes stripped down for a nip slip in this video campaign that was banned from U.S. networks.  She even (accidentally?) flashed a nipple while rolling around in the bedsheets. Calvin Klein, which has a history of borderline-pornographic commercials, seemed to realize that the ban could only be good for publicity, posting it on their Web site with the title, “banned TV commercial.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtcALmhKYMU&feature=player_embedded 5. Marc Jacobs Oh, Lola! (2011) It’s one thing to plonk a giant bottle between your own privates, but quite another to do it to a 17-year-old Dakota Fanning. MJ’s Oh, Lola! fragrance, which he ironically described as “more of a Lolita than a Lola” (SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE) received a lot of complaints claiming the ads sexualizing a child. Dakota-Fanning-Oh-Lola-FW-2011-Teller 6. Yves St Laurent Opium (2000) Receiving a grand total of 948 complaints from pearl-clutching Brits when it was released 14 years ago, Sophie Dahl’s horizontal vogueing for Yves St Lauren’s “Opium” fragrance is the most griped about fashion ad of all time. Things that were less dangerous to children than Dahl’s bare, milky body included sitting on railway tracks, threesomes, and promotion of rape. The ad was pulled as a poster, but was allowed to live on in fashion mags. sophie-dahl 7. Beyoncé Heat (2010) A thing that happened which seems very ridiculous post-Drunk in Love is that the ad for Beyoncé’s first fragrance was deemed too sexy for daytime television. Manufacturers argued that the imagery was less overtly sexual than what is routinely seen in music videos (duh) and that Beyoncé was at no point naked. It was simply classified as a ”sexually provocative ad that was unsuitable to be seen by young children,” https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=76lPciEip3A 8. YSL Belle d’Opium (2011) Obviously taking the word “opium” and running with it, the ASA banned the ad because it apparently promoted drug use. Starring the French actress Melanie Theirry, the ad shows her flailing around to some none-too-memorable percussion before pointing to her inner elbow and running her finger along the inside of her forearm, which obviously means she’s on heroin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uvBVUit3kjY

Blackstars-5

Over the last few days, attempts by some media men and their clothing designer friend to claim the praise for the bespoke, customised caftans worn by many members of the Blackstars squad at a presidential ball with John Mahama before leaving for Brazil have made headline news in both the regular press and on blog sites over the internet. Blackstars-6 It is regrettable to see a recognised, state-owned newspaper like the “Weekly Spector” which has churned out well researched stories and news to feed a discerning bunch of their patrons over a considerably long number of years to blunder gravely in last Saturday’s headline story on Elikem the tailor. The corresponding picture and caption were inaccurate as it portrayed Elikem as the designer of the Caftans worn by the stars. In the same vein, Ghanasoccernet, an online sports site over last few days published a similar story touting Elikem as the maker of the clothes that added the needed colour and finesse to that august event. Blackstars-8 In an industry where creativity is the mainstay, where sleepless nights are rampant just to meet deadlines, it is only fair and just to protect the works and creations of the players in their field of endeavour. The onus then lies on the designer firstly to patent his works. However, the greater responsibility of protecting these creative works should be on the mass media especially, as they have the power and machinery to promote only after doing due diligence to fully authenticate their stories and promo messages. 3 Acote collections by Opoku Mensah David and Chocolate by  Kweku Bediako were the designers of those ravishing clothes for the stars at the presidential ball. These young entrepreneurs championing the made in Ghana agenda can only be supported and not sabotaged. Their joint plea is simple; Elikem and the media houses promoting this anomaly must set the record straight and give praise where it’s due. Blackstars-3

The bold singer has a distinct colorful edgy style laced within an 80s inspired vision, and dotted with influence from rock legends such as Freddy Mercury to Funk superstars like Rick James and Prince and modern artists including Lana Del Rey and Justin Timberlake. Uché never sits still when it comes to the feel or style of his music, stating, “I never want to be put in a box, I find that very boring.” The vibrant young artist's eclectic voice, just like his music, does not take on one form; instead it soars and dives in color, timbre, and tone, uniquely transforming throughout melodies. Uché describes himself as the atypical ‘class clown’ stating, ”I was just a weird little boy that liked to dance and do flips all the time and who just loved making people laugh.” He reminisces, "I remember telling my mom one day after middle school ‘during school when I can make even one person smile I feel like I’ve done my job.” Uché hasn’t always been around singing but believes that “God’s plan is always revealed,” beginning with dancing then acting and finally taking the advice from countless casting directors and choir teachers began singing. “As a kid I was just never the standout singer of the family, I thought that place was for my sisters.” Though heeding the advice he finally joined the choir of his High school and church, but he never quite felt at home when in the midst of a choir. He exclaims, “I hated having to just stand there and sway, It was so not for me.” Uché found his home when he took stage as a solo artist. He describes his performances, “No apologies, I go all out every time. You ain’t never seen a lanky bro ‘Get It’ like a short guy can... until now lol.” As of late, God’s grace has been propelling Uché's career recently winning the ACUVUE® 1-Day Contest, releasing his single “Shoo Fly” along with music video, Sponsored by ACUVUE® Brand. Lupita Nyong’o Stuns on First Vogue Cover

lupita-cover

It was only a matter of time before the World’s Most Beautiful Woman nabbed her first Vogue cover. Lupita Nyong’o looks flawless (naturally) on the July issue of the magazine, posing in a purple printed cutout Prada dress with a huge smile across her face. And in addition to expertly modeling a number of gorgeous designer looks in the new spread (including Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Givenchy and J. Crew), the Oscar winner gives a very candid interview about her “breakout year.”

lupita-600x450

“It just feels like the entertainment industry exploded into my life,” she tells Vogue. “People who seemed so distant all of a sudden were right in front of me and recognizing me — before I recognized them!”

This year marked Nyong’o’s first award season, and even though she managed to rule the red carpet almost instantaneously — and seemed to never break a sweat — she says that, at times, she found her plunge into superstardom overwhelming.

“Everyone said, ‘Brace yourself, Lupita! Keep a granola bar in that clutch of yours!’” she says. “I didn’t really understand what they meant, and it was only once it was past that I realized that my body had been holding on by a thread to get through this very intense experience. Nothing can prepare you for awards season. The red carpet feels like a war zone, except you cannot fly or fight; you just have to stand there and take it.”

lupita-cover

Thanks to all those red carpet appearances (and her stylist Micaela Erlanger) the actress found herself on top of a number of best-dressed lists, captivating the fashion world and fans in memorable looks like the bright-red Ralph Lauren Collection gown at the Golden Globes and her custom “Nairobi blue” Prada confection at the Oscars.

“We got goose bumps,” Erlanger recalls about the fitting of the caped Ralph Lauren dress. “I told her, ‘This is going to be a game-changer.’ And it was.” The stylist also tells Vogue that the first time she met Nyong’o, the actress had a Pinterest board of looks she loved. “Bold color, interesting print, interesting silhouette — simple but architectural and feminine,” she shares. “Elegance, but with a sense of humor.”

“We’d just try, try, try, try, try, try, try,” Nyong’o adds. “At first it was very daunting, but I ended up really having fun with it. It’s quite scary when you fall in love with a dress, because it’s nothing to do with your brain. It’s like a gut reaction.”

lupita

The 31-year-old star grew up in Kenya, and says she always had a penchant for fashion. She designed her own clothes, including her prom dress. “It was a velvet miniskirt with a matching little top and an iridescent silver translucent fabric that flowed to the ground,” she shares. “It was kind of ridiculous, but it was fabulous at the time.”

In addition to her stronghold on the fashion world (including a Miu Miu ad campaign), Nyong’o also landed herfirst major beauty campaign this year with Lancôme. “It’s not about conforming to an already established idea of what is beautiful, and I like that,” she says of admiring the brand and its other celebrity ambassadors.

What’s next? The star already has a huge film project lined up (Star Wars!), so there will be plenty of red carpets in her future. But we’re not sure how she can top this year.

On Saturday, June 21st 2014, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Southwest Zonal Office, Lagos Nigeria organised a Novelty Football Match, at the Onikan Stadium;  with a team of celebrities and NCFRMI staff taking on a team of Refugees from Mali, Cote D’ivoire, Central African Republic and Sudan.
The celebrities in attendance were led by Voice of NCFRMI - Nikki Laoye, Sammie Okposo and veteran dancer and choreographer Muyiwa Osinaike. The match was also attended by the Honourable Federal Commissioner of the NCFRMI, Hajiya Hadiza Sani Kangiwa, who performed the ceremonial kick-off of the match.
The match was keenly contested as the Refugee Team played with much gusto and skill, scores ended at 7 – 5, in favour of the Refugee Team, with Nikki Laoye and Sammie Okposo recording their names on the score sheet with two (2) well taken goals. In her remarks, the Honorable Federal Commissioner, extolled the skills of the players in the Refugee Team, noting that some of them were good enough to play for professional football teams, she furthermore indicated that the Commission would look into the possibility of inviting talent scouts to evaluate some of the players.

She also thanked her colleagues who honoured the invitation to take part in the Novelty Match. She further encouraged the Refugees by saying  “despite all you've been through, stand strong and stay focused on building a new life for yourselves. Keep praying and trusting God, He will provide all you need”.
HCF Team
Music veteran Sammie Okposo, also articulated his appreciation at being able to give back to the society, noting that he had no idea that Nigeria had a proper agency which cared for Refugees and Internally displaced persons; and as a goodwill message, he encouraged the refugees and IDPs stating that “it is not a good thing to be displaced, but for whatever reason you are displaced, there is an umbrella here, so if you run in here (NCFRMI), you are well covered as far as Nigeria is concerned”.
Nollywood actress, Judith Audu, who was also in attendance, commended the initiative, stating that “it is always good to do things like this for the refugees, as it gives them a sense of belonging and lets them know that they have a family here in Nigeria, I particularly enjoyed watching Sammie Okposo and Nikki Laoye score goals each”.

The panel moderated by Dr Martyn Davies, Chief Executive Officer, Frontier Advisory (South Africa) discussed issues including the growth of Africa’s economy across countries, support and sustainability for enterpriser and the long-term benefit of keeping African entrepreneurs on the continent.

“There is no real African beauty brand that can be exportable; we want to build a beauty brand that can be exported to the world,” Mrs. Fela Durotoye said on NYFA TV. “I think that our story is amazing; I think it’s a story the world wants to hear, I think it’s going to play a role in rebranding the whole of the continent.”

How to Protect Your Relationship and Make It Last

face

The surge of adrenaline was making my heart race and my face hot. This was one intense argument, full of shouting and eviscerating insults. Everyone in the restaurant was staring. I couldn't wait for it to be over. . .so that my boyfriend and I could get the check and escape from our feuding friends and this double-date nightmare. I thought we were free once we made it to the car, but little did I know that their toxic fumes would follow us home. Soon, we were attacking each other too.

New research may explain this phenomenon: We all have mirror neurons, or brain cells that may help us process the emotions of other people and could subconsciously influence our own behavior toward others, according to a study published in Brain Imaging and Behavior. They may allow us to empathize with and better understand the people around us—which is great when your best friend lands her dream job ("Yay! Let's have a spa day!"), but not so fun when she's seething with rage at her boyfriend ("Um, gotta go!").

These cells can be responsive to stress and negative energy, so even just witnessing someone else's warring ways could put you at the pre-show of your very own romantic battle. Assuming you don't want your relationship to go down because of a fight that has nothing to do with you, here are suggestions on how to block other couples' contentious vibes.

shield

Why Bad Juju Spreads
You're a freethinking adult, so why are you letting other people's problems seep into your life? One reason, science explains, is not that you love to soak up drama (except maybe when watching reality TV); it's because you may not even be aware it's happening. Social mirroring, or imitating others, is considered an automatic, subconscious process (triggered by those mirror neurons) that allows us to better relate to people's motives, desires, and thoughts, according to a review of research authored by Marco Iacoboni, a professor of psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. "We're hardwired with the impulse to imitate whatever emotion we see in those we're with," says marriage and family therapist Leslie Parrott, Ph.D., coauthor of The Good Fight. You don't even need to be that close to someone—either physically or emotionally—to take on their feelings (see "Thank You for Not Sharing," at right, for more). Just hearing of a friend-of-a-friend's relationship woes can put you in a funk.

Fail to realize where those ill feelings are coming from and you can project the anger or resentment onto your guy—which can spark a fight that you can't brush off with a "Just kidding! I'm feeling better now." And, "because your partner doesn't know the backstory, he may think these emotions are coming from something you don't like about him, and he could react in turn," says psychotherapist Avril Carruthers, author of Freedom from Toxic Relationships.

Halt That Negativity
You can't just switch off your mirror neurons—but you can stop other people's relationship tension from riling you up. In fact, just being more attentive to what's going on around you helps. "Realize that when someone has an emotion, you're probably going to pick up on it," says Parrott. And while your first instinct may be to put yourself in their shoes, it's better to think of yourself as a caring—but uninvolved—bystander. So if your sister turns girls' night into an investigation of whether or not her guy is cheating on her, consciously resist the urge to let her distrust spur your own suspicions. "It's essential to recognize whose problem it is and not take it on," says Carruthers. "Listen objectively, but don't become deeply involved. Talk to her about what she'll do, and move on." Establish some distance and you'll be less likely to catch her paranoia. And if the convo is still bugging you later on? Think of how your situation is different from hers. Remember how your man said you were the sexiest thing he'd ever seen? Right, you two are fine.

If you happen to be stuck with a pissed-off person or pair—say, you're a backseat observer to a front-seat argument—do your best to change the subject to a neutral topic (like the lovely scenery), or plug in and distract yourself with music. Don't try to take a side or defuse the tension with a joke (odds are, it won't work anyway). Once you've survived the awkwardness, alert your guy to the fact that there could be a ripple effect. Tell him, "I'm upset about what's going on between Gwen and Ryan, and I don't want it to affect us," suggests Carruthers.

However, in the case that this wasn't just one bad car ride (i.e., it's pretty much World War III every time you're with this pair), it may be best to distance yourselves from the troubled twosome until things settle down—or they break up. "There's really nothing healthy or productive that can come from this type of dynamic," says psychologist Sherrie Campbell, Ph.D., author of Loving Yourself: The Mastery of Being Your Own Person. Become less available to meet up or talk on the phone, and if your friend asks why you've gone missing, be direct. Campbell suggests saying, "I love spending time with you, but your relationship drama is starting to affect me."

Let in the Good Stuff
Though mirror neurons are considered equally sensitive in their response to negative and happy sentiments, it's a healthier idea to hang out with other couples whose, say, mutual affection and respect you admire—and to make it a regular outing. In the hours and days following these double dates, you'll most likely find that you and your guy can't seem to keep your hands off each other or are cruising through a no-fighting streak. This is when subconscious mirroring can be pretty awesome—and you'll be gladthat other people's romantic energy can follow you home.

4 Ways to Burn Belly Fat Faster on Your Next Run

BIG-STOMACH

You've been eating right and exercising for a while, but that stubborn belly fat just won't budge! Along with incorporating foods that fight fat into your diet, here are some ways to burn that pooch away while you are out on a run.

Switch Up Your Pace

Intervals are proven to reduce belly fat and rev up metabolism; instead of running at the same pace for the entire workout, try alternating between periods of pushing your body to the max and periods of recovery. Here's a list of interval workouts for you to try:

xxlarge

Go a Little Longer

Unfortunately you can't spot treat when it comes to weight loss, which is one reason why solely doing crunches won't whittle your waistline. The key is to decrease overall body fat, and the one way to do that is to burn calories. Lengthening your workout will do just that. Every five minutes of running at a 10-minute-per-mile pace burns about 45 calories. Think about that on your next run, and it'll motivate you to keep going!

High Knees

You're working hard to diminish your overall body weight, which will slim down your belly, so you can reveal toned abs underneath. Here's one way to strengthen your core. Do one-minute intervals in which you run with high knees. Concentrate on using your abs rather than your leg muscles to kick your knees up as high as you can.

Try This Killer Treadmill Move

Here's another core killer if you're using a treadmill. Set the pace to 1.0 mph. Place your feet on a Plyo Box that's set up about two feet behind the back of the treadmill. Come into plank position with your hands straddling the treadmill belt. Step your hands on the belt and start walking, keeping your torso in one straight line. Do this for one minute, pulling your belly in toward your spine. Watch the above shredmill move in action here!
